Satyalok and Rishidesh

Our ancient Hindu texts revere our country as Satyalok and Rishidesh. Etimologically words Lok means world and Satya means truth. Similarly Ri also means truth. And Rishis were Sages who speak truth only. Desh means a country. That’s why ancient India was called as Rishidesh. And people also spoke truth, that’s why ancient India was called as Satyalok.

Satyameva Jayate

We Indians take pride while adopting the hymn of Satyameva Jayate as our National motto. Which in fact was adopted from Mundaka Upanishad. “Satyameva Jayate” meaning Truth Prevails ultimately or Truth only triumphs always.

Ancient foreign writers and modern observers as well hailed Indians for their truthfulness. I give here some references from the writings of foreigners.

STRABO

Indians are so honest that they neither required locks in their doors nor they reduce their agreements into writing to bind them. – STRABO (63 BCE-24 ACE)

(I am happy to tell you that I have another website named: Democracy of India which have articles on Constitution of India, Freedom struggle, Fundamental rights, etc., and History of Andhra Telugu People. etc. Make a visit to this website also and read the articles and express your opinion.)

The Indians are innumerable, like grains of sand free from deceit and violence. They fear neither death nor life. And,

MARCO POLO

You must know that Indians are the best merchants in the world and the most truthful for they would not tell a lie for anything on earth. – MARCO POLO (1254-1295 ACE)

ABUL FAZAL

The Hindus are admirers of Truth and of unbounded fidelity in all their dealings. – ABUL FAZAL (1551-1602 ACE)

MAX MULLER

It was love of truth that struck all the peoples who came in contact with India as the prominent feature in the national character of the inhabitants. – MAX MULLER (1823-1900 ACE)

Unlike other Religions of the World, Hindu religion is not founded on a single religious text. Nor it is controlled by any clergy of a Religious Congress. Indian society has evolved over thousands of years. There is no rigidity of tenets for practicing Hindu Religion. Manu Smriti says that laws must change according to Desa (country), Kalamana (times and time measure), and Paristhiti (practical situation). But Humane of course. That is the essence of Indian Religion. It is based on the principles of Achara Paramo Dharma (meaning: A particular People’s customs should prevail over general Dharma strictures .)
