Gayatri Mantra

Gayatri Mantra is a sacred Vedic mantra dedicated to worshipping Savita Devi for bestowing longevity and wealth. Some people view Savitr or Savita as a masculine deity. Some as Divine Femininity. I believe Savitr or Savitri Devi represents the female energy of the Sun God Surya.

Gayatri Mantra

OM bhUrbhuvaH suvaH tat saviturvarENyaM bhargO dEvasya dhImahi dhiyO yOnaH pracOdayaat

(The following texts are extracts from Chapter 24, Gayatri Mantra in author’s BOOK: “A Tribute to the Ancient World of India“)

(I am happy to tell you that I have another website named: Democracy of India which have articles on Constitution of India, Freedom struggle, Fundamental rights, etc., and History of Andhra Telugu People. etc. Make a visit to this website also and read the articles and express your opinion.)

And meaning of the Gayatri mantra can be stated as follows:

“Goddess Savita Devi ! You are lighting this world all over. you are lighting this earth, this sky and the universe. Not only that you are responsible for the proper existence of the three worlds in their respective places. And be kind to inspire my intellect in order to enable me to know your Omni present and splendorous cosmic play.”

(Word to word meaning: OM = primordial sound; bhUH= earth; bhuvaH = heavens; suvaH = carrying; tat = yoke; savita = (energy of the) sun; varENyam = excellent, desired;  bharga = splendor, radiance;  dEva = god, shining; asya = of this; dhI = know; ahi = heaven and earth; dhiya =       intelligence; O,  O, naH  = my;  prachOdayaat = inspire. )

(The terms Bhu, Bhuva, and Suva appear to symbolize the Mullokas, the three Cities of Tripuras. And Savita Devi is said to illuminate these three Lokas. This demonstrates Savita Devi’s dominance over the Three Lokas, akin to Triambakeswari.)
