Daivajna, the Hindu Astrologer
Daivajna, the Hindu Astrologer: In fact, we commonly refer to Hindu Indian Astrologers and Vastu Shastra experts as Daivajna or Jyotishi or Jyotishacharya. We consult an Astrologer to resolve personal trouble and Vastu related problems and also to determine auspicious timings. Generally, the Astrologers follow certain rules and regulations and are sincerely engaged in doing what is best for us. Therefore, we respect them. Now I would like to list some slokas from Hindu Shastras which prescribe the requisite faculties or qualities of a Hindu astrologer to be respected as a Daivajna.

Meaning: One who possesses knowledge of these three branches—Siddhanta, Hora, and Samhita and who is knowledgeable in Vedic rituals and traditional practices, who is free from arrogance, and who always speaks the truth, becomes a true astrologer and hence a Daivajna.

Meaning: An Astrologer should rise during the Brahma Muhurta (auspicious pre-dawn period), one should meditate on their chosen deity, perform bodily purification rituals, and carry out daily routines such as brushing teeth, bathing, performing achamana (ritual sipping of water), offering arghya (water offering), and chanting mantras. Astrologers should then observe the Panchangam (Hindu calendar) and perform planetary calculations with a calm mind.
The Astologer should keep his right shoulder uncovered, that is, not covered with clothing. That means he should wear Uttariyam so that it covers left side of his shoulder leaving right shoulder uncovered.
